Evaluation of a Ct to Cone-beam Ct Deformable Registration Algorithm

چکیده
Purpose and Objectives The advent of on-board cone-beam CT (CBCT) imagers for radiation therapy delivery devices offers the potential for daily dosimetry and adaptive therapy. Heretofore this potential has been limited by several artifacts in the CBCT volumes which may require surrogates with reliable density values to be used for recalculation of dosimetry, such as a CT volume deformed to the treatment space of the CBCT. Additionally, automatically accumulating dose to critical structures and target volumes requires structures defined on the original planning CT to be deformed into the treatment space identified by the CBCT. We propose a high degree of freedom free-form deformation with maximization of local information theoretic metrics algorithm for CT to CBCT to meet these challenges.

How does CT image noise affect 3D deformable image registration for image-guided radiotherapy planning?
PURPOSE To measure the sensitivity of deformable image registration to image noise. Deformable image registration can be used to map organ contours and other treatment planning data from one CT to another. These CT studies can be acquired with either conventional fan-beam CT systems or more novel cone-beam CT techniques. However, cone-beam CT images can have higher noise levels than fan-beam CT...
متن کاملInter-fraction deformable registration of CT and Cone Beam CT images for adaptive radiotherapy
Recent advances in intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) have allowed accurate and fast delivery of treatment dose in the patient. Daily changes in patient geometry need to be accounted for to take full advantage of the increased accuracy of the delivered dose. On-site imaging using cone beam CT and registration of the acquired image with the algorithm presented here provides tools for effici...
متن کاملIncorporating tissue excision in deformable image registration: a modified demons algorithm for cone-beam CT-guided surgery
The ability to perform fast, accurate, deformable registration with intraoperative images featuring surgical excisions was investigated for use in cone-beam CT (CBCT) guided head and neck surgery. Existing deformable registration methods generally fail to account for tissue excised between image acquisitions and typically simply “move” voxels within the images with no ability to account for tis...

PURPOSE We evaluated the performance of organ contour propagation from a planning computed tomography to cone-beam computed tomography with deformable image registration by comparing contours to manual contouring. MATERIALS AND METHODS Sixteen patients were retrospectively identified based on showing considerable physical change throughout the course of treatment. Multiple organs in the 3 reg...
متن کاملDosimetric and geometric evaluation of the use of deformable image registration in adaptive intensity-modulated radiotherapy for head-and-neck cancer
The aim of this study was to carry out geometric and dosimetric evaluation of the usefulness of a deformable image registration algorithm utilized for adaptive head-and-neck intensity-modulated radiotherapy. Data consisted of seven patients, each with a planning CT (pCT), a rescanning CT (ReCT) and a cone beam CT (CBCT). The CBCT was acquired on the same day (± 1 d) as the ReCT (i.e. at Fractio...
